The spread offense has propelled Powell Valley to the last three state regional finals and one state championship game. In head-to-head match ups with JIB, the PV spread is 3 wins 2 losses.

IMO, the reason PV has not advanced farther or had even more success is not the offense, it is defense. The truth is that ever since Barry Jones left the coaching staff, the Viking D has not been the same. You win championships with defense & the PV teams of the 80's and 90's had great defensive units.

If the defense improves, PV can win the state title with the spread. If the defense does not play better this year than last, the spread, wishbone, I, or single wing will not be enough to get them to the next level.
